Since 1985, Dutch Fork Animal Hospital has been the destination for trusted veterinary care in Irmo, SC. Dr. Claude Schumpert

Dr. Claude Schumpert, DVM

Dr. Claude Schumpert graduated from the University of Georgia in May of 1990. He received his undergraduate BS degree in Agricultural Sciences from Clemson University in May of 1986. He grew up in Newberry, SC. He and his wife, Missy, have two daughters, Ashton and Logan, and share their home with two cats, two Golden Retrievers, and one small mixed breed pup that is doing a good job of training the rest of the family. Dr. Schumpert and his family are members of Chapin Baptist Church. He is very active in community organizations such as The Rotary Club of Chapin Sunrise and Education Foundation for Lexington-Richland Five. He enjoys softball, golf, and volleyball. He also collects coins and Department 56-Snow Village.

Dr. Emily Johnson

Dr. Emily Johnson, DVM

Dr. Johnson grew up in Charleston, SC and graduated from Bishop England High School before earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology at Wofford College. Together, Dr. Johnson and her husband Chris moved to Raleigh, NC where she graduated from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She has been practicing since 2003 and brought her experience to Dutch Fork on March 31, 2008. She and her husband had their first son, Coleman, on January 21st, 2010 and share their home with Iggy the lovable mixed breed, Bart, the feisty furball, and two cats Copper and Fox.

Dr. Elizabeth Niciu

Dr. Elizabeth Niciu, DVM

Dr. Elizabeth Niciu earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Georgia in 2000. Originally from East Setauket, NY, she earned her Bachelors of Science from Muhlenberg College, Allentown, PA in 1992 and her Masters of Zoology from the University of Florida in 1995. For 9.5 years she practiced small animal medicine in Loganville, GA. She enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, and brought her expertise to our DFAH team on November 17, 2009. She shares her home with her husband Rob and 7 year old daughter, Jessica, along with her cats. In GA, Dr Niciu was a member of Contact Dance Ballroom Performance Company. Now she enjoys dancing with Vista Ballroom's Latin Performance Group!

Dr. Tiffany Boyette

Dr. Tiffany Boyette, DVM

Dr. Boyette graduated from The Ohio State University in 1996. She joined the team at Dutch Fork Animal Hospital in May 1998. She and her husband, Heyward (also a veterinarian), have 2 daughters. They also share their home with 3 cats and a goofy dog. In her free time, Dr. Boyette likes to take ballet and tap classes. She and her family are actively involved in Ann Brodie's Carolina Ballet. She helps make props, alter costumes, works backstage, and even performs in the Nutcracker every year! During her down time, she enjoys reading, cross stitch, and computer games. She has recently earned her certification as an advanced scuba diver!

Dr. Greg Connor

Dr. Greg Conner, DVM

Dr. Conner, an associate, earned a BS from the University of New Hampshire. Shortly after, in 1990, he earned a Masters Degree in Veterinary Medicine that was later followed by his Doctorate in 1994 from Mississippi State University. He and his wife, Ruthie, have a daughter Olivia and a dog named Reagan.

Dr. Crystie Peeler

Dr. Crystie Peeler, DVM

Dutch Fork Animal Hospital is excited to welcome back Dr. Peeler! She graduted from NC State and has over 10 years of experience working in veterinary medicine in the Midlands. She and her husband share their home with two wonderful children and many four-legged children: three dogs, four cats, two miniature donkeys, and a Guinea Pig named Kevin.

Dr. Louise Burpee

Dr. Louise Burpee, DVM

Dr. Louise Burpee completed her undergraduate studies at Middlebury College in Vermont in 1980. She graduated from The University Of Georgia School of Veterinary Medicine in 1987. She came here to Dutch Fork Animal Hospital following graduation when we were still in "the little yellow house". She and her husband, Dr. Randy Basinger (who is a veterinary surgeon here in Columbia) have two children, Will and Carly, and share their home with two dogs, three cats, two birds, and one rat. Dr. Burpee enjoys watersports, tennis, traveling, and reading. She is a member of many professional and community organizations. She retired in June 2012, but will continue to do relief work in our hospital as she begins this new chapter of her life.

Dr. Louise Burpee

Dr. Elizabeth Hood, DVM

Dr. Hood grew up on a farm in Gainesville, Georgia where she attended Gainesville High school. She later attended Clemson University where she received her bachelor's of science in Animal and Veterinary Sciences. Dr. Hood graduated from Mississippi State University with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. She recently moved to Chapin, S.C. in May of this year and currently shares her home with her lab mix, Molly, and her black cat, Toby. Along with our small animals, Dr. Hood also shares a passion for dairy cattle! She is very excited to start her new life in South Carolina and is looking forward to meeting you and your pets!

DeeDee Ashley

DeeDee Ashley

DeeDee Ashley joined us in October of 2002. Dee Dee has always had a passion for animals. She currently owns Belle, a Labrador Retriever. She has two daughters: Erica is in the USGC and Makenzie graduated from USC and is working in the Charleston area. Dee Dee and her husband live in Chapin and are members of Chapin Baptist Church. After nineteen years in banking, DeeDee is thoroughly enjoying her new career. She also enjoys photography, traveling, dancing, going to the beach, and spending time with her friends and family.

Carrie Popa

Carrie Popa

Carrie is the head of our reception department and has been with the hospital since July of 2005. She graduated from Michigan State University in 2003 with a degree in Zoology and a specialization in Animal Behavior and Neuroscience. Carrie and her husband, Chris, share their home their two sons, Bennett and Banks. They have a dachshund mix, Penny, and three cats: Badger, Olive, and Callahan. They welcomed their fist two-legged baby, Bennett, in April 2012. Carrie enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time with her family.

Willow

Willow came to DFAH in March 2009 through the Project Pet adoption drive. She's a hard worker providing invaluable assistance to the reception staff by napping and begging for snacks. She craves positive attention and is willing to chat with new clients whom she hopes to provide her treats. Be sure to say hello when you bring in your pets!

Bethany Hobbs

Bethany Hobbs

Bethany joined the DFAH team in April 2012. Born and raised in South Carolina, she grew up in Chapin and currenly lives in Irmo with her husband, Steve. She is a graduate of the University of South Carolina and one of her favorite pastimes is watching USC football with her friends -- GO GAMECOCKS! She has always loved animals; she and her husband share their home with two cats, Ace and Angus, and two dogs, Dutchess and Lucy. Bethany and her husband have one daughter, Amelia.

Holly Crowe

Holly is our wonderful Head of Kennel. She lives in Ballentine with her husband, son, and her four-legged-children (2 cats and one dog). She is a "jack of all trades" and you may find her smiling face greeting you in reception if she is not busy keeping our kennel top notch!

Susan Sansbury

Susan Sansbury

Susan joined in March 2013. She and her husband moved back to South Carolina from Michigan with their two children and currently live in Lexington. She has 11 years of experience working in a 24Hr emergency clinic as well as with an all feline facility and housecall practice as a technician. She has been an advocate for animal rescue and fostered many over the years. Her family has shared their home with lots of pets in the past, but currently cuddle up with their two cats: Jinx and Cheeto. A lover of all sports and NASCAR, she is a die-hard Wolverine, Red Wings, and Tigers fan! In her spare time, she enjoys photography and boating.

Jessica Sylvester, LVT

Jessica Jones, LVT

Jessica joined the DFAH group in November 2008. She was previously employed at Carolina Wildlife Care as an Avian Caretaker. Jessica has a B.A. in Biology from Coker College an A.S. in Veterinary Technology from St. Petersburg College. She has been a Licensed Veterinary Technician since August 2014 and continues to look for opportunities to further her education. Jessica shares her home with her adorable mixed breed, Elly, and California King Snake, Diego.

Shelby Smith

Shelby Smith

Shelby has been a member of DFAH since April 2014. She resides in Ballentine and graduated from Chapin High School. She shares her home with her Jack-Chi, Brutus, cockatiel named Hey Bird, a leopard gecko, hermit crab and two tarantulas. She looks forward to meeting you and your furry friends.

Erika Stanley

Erika Stanley

Erika is originally from Irmo but enjoys living in Chapin. She is a certified Veterinary Assistant and is currently taking online classes to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician. She has been in the veterinary field for a little over two years and has always wanted to work with animals since she was a little girl. She used to foster kittens for Pawmetto Lifeline and occasionally pet-sit for friends and family.  She has recently become more interested in canine obedience training. At home, she is owned by my her tabby, Camo, and my two miniature Dachshunds, Jewel and Keiser (Jewel's son), and they are her world. She looks forward to meeting you and your fur babies!

Susan Etherton

Susan Etherton, LVT

Susan has had a very exciting life full of different experiences that have brought her to DFAH. She graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1996 with a B.S. in Zoology. While in Illinois, she began her animal career at a nature center working with children in an educational setting. She then went to Sanibel Island, FL working with injured, orphaned, and sick wildlife. Next in her adventures, she joined a wildlife refuge that rescued large carnivores before she traveled to Gabon, a small country in central Africa, for the Peace Corps. She's worked at a wildlife rehabilitation center in Texas, the San Antonio Zoo, the Mesker Park Zoo in Indiana, a kangaroo and Australian animal center in Georgia and even worked at our very own Riverbanks Zoo as a keeper. After a knee injury, she switched gears and began studying small animal medicine. She is currently studying veterinary technology at Penn Foster College; she is in her last semester! She joined the DFAH team in September 2014 and became a Liscensed Veterinary Technician in August 2016!

Kayla Hogg, LVT

Kayla Hogg, LVT

Kayla is our Head Veterinary Technician. She joined the DFAH family in November 2007 after working at Riverbanks Zoo and Gardens. She earned an A.S. in Science from Midlands Technical College and an A.S. in Veterinary Technology from St. Petersburg College. She has been a Licensed Veterinary Technician since August 2014. She plans on returning to University and continuing on to Vet School. When she’s not working, Kayla enjoys baking, reading, DIY projects, and relaxing with her boyfriend. She shares her home in Lexington with two German Shepherds, Axel and Reiner, two cats, and three ferrets.

Patricia McKinney

Patricia Kenney

Patricia, or Trish, started working at DFAH in February 2015. She has a vast amount of experience in surgery from working at South Carolina Veterinary Emergency and Referral Center. She has been in the veterinary field for many years and hopes to continue her journey here at DFAH! You can see her working appointments, so be sure to say hello! She can't wait to meet you and your four-legged friends!

Melissa Danielsen

Melissa Danielsen, LVT

Melissia lives in Newberry, SC and graduated from Piedmont Technical College in May of 2015 with an A.S. in Veterinary Technology. She completed two internships at DFAH while in the program and fell in love with everyone here. She became a Liscensed Veterinary Technician In July 2015. She enjoys reading, being out on the water, and spending time with my family, boyfriend, and friends. She has five pets: a mixed breed dog named Tober and four cats named Copper, Ms. Belle, Clegg, and Lilly. She is excited to get to know all of our clients and their fur babies!

Lisa Perryman

Lisa Perryman, LVT

Lisa joined the DFAH family in September 2014. She is currently a student at Piedmont Technical College in the Vet Tech Program and is excited about her future. She loves animals and wants nothing more than to help them. She has three dogs, Jaden (Pit-mix, Bruttus (Pit Bull, and Dixie (Pit Bull). In August 2016, Lisa passed her boards and became a Liscensed Veterinary Technician!

Olivia Perez

Olivia Perez

Olivia has been working at DFAH since September 2014. She works as a kennel assistant and loves getting to know all the patients under her care. She loves reading and science! She recently adopted an adorable mixed breed, Jupiter. She can't wait to meet and play with your fur babies!

Jordan Critzman

Jordan Critzman

Jordan is back! Jordan began at DFAH a few years back and is now back working part-time. You can see him in the kennel or in appointments, so be sure to say hello!

Tara Davis

Tara Davis

Tara has always had a love for all animals big and small! She was raised in Charleston, SC where she grew up riding horses and in 2012 she started working as a Veterinary Assistant at Charleston Veterinary Referral Center. Despite her love for Veterinary Emergency, she moved to Columbia, SC and began working at a small general practice animal clinic. Now life as brought her to Dutch Fork and she is very excited to take care of your furry family members while she studies to become a licensed Veterinary Technician. She has a beautiful German Shepherd Dog, Sassy, a sweet little mixed-breed named Pollock, and a spoiled kitten named Pip Squeak ("Pipa" for short). In her free time, she enjoys playing guitar, singing, and she loves to draw.

Terri Daniels

Terri Daniels

Terri joined DFAH in Feburary 2015. Her life long passion for dogs finally led her away from working 29 years in the retail customer service field. She is a graduate of USC where she earned a B.S. in Criminal Justice. She has been married to her husband, and best friend, Tim for the past 23 years. They live in West Columbia with seven small dogs (Enzo, Reeses, Boston, Dargo, Roo, Sweet Pea, and Tucker) and three birds (P.J., Moses, and Chance). She enjoys reading, writing, hiking, and playing with her dogs during her downtime.

Gena Bush

Gena Bush

Gena joined the DFAH team in the summer of 2015. She and her husband of 20 years have two children and two furry kids. They are a military and law enforcement family that have lived in the upstate of South Carolina for the majority of their lives. They have recently moved to this area. While she is new to Dutch Fork, she has been working with animals for 16 years! She has a special interest in senior pets and their care as they age as well as orthopedics. In what little free time she has, she enjoys reading, playing on the lake with the family and drawing. She enjoys learning new things about this profession every day and is excited about where veterinary medicine is headed.

Juan is from Puerto Rico and has an associate’s degree in Livestock Industry. He has been working as a veterinary technician for 7 years. "I consider my work as a hobby. I enjoy helping animals so they can live a happy life." Keep an eye out for Juan's smiling face and tell him hello!

Kathryn is originally from Chicago but now resides in Irmo. She graduated from the University of St. Thomas in 2014 with a B.S. in Biology. She is a certified Veterinary Assistant and is in the process of applying for veterinarian school. She has been in the veterinary field for four and half years and has always wanted to help animals. When Kathryn is not working, she enjoys going scuba diving, reading, and relaxing at her home with her fiancé Michael and her Dalmatian puppy, Eve.

Tiffany became part of the DFAH team in May 2016 shortly after completing her B.S. in Wildlife Biology from Charleston Southern University. She says that her “passion in life is helping or speaking for the creatures that cannot do it for themselves.” In the future, Tiffany plans to become a Veterinarian or Wildlife Biologist so she can continue to work in the field she feels she was born to be in! Tiffany always has a smile on her face and is looking forward to continuing to work with all of us at Dutch Fork Animal Hospital. In her mind, laugher is the best medicine so be sure to have some fun when you meet her!

Kyle Willimson

Kyle joined the DFAH team in Fall 2016 and hails from the Irmo area. He’s been a Veterianary Technician for over 9 years and brings with him a wealth of variety and knowledge. Kyle and his wife, Alexis, are having a wonderful time raising their son Benjamin and two fur children Zoe and Brandy! Kyle is always up for a good laugh and looks forward to meeting you here and helping you with any of your pet’s needs!

Kirsten Fine

Kirsten Fine

Kirsten joined the DFAH team in August of 2013. She lives in Irmo with her boyfriend and her three pets: her dog, Luke, and two cats. In April 2014, they welcomed their son Brice into the world! Kirstin has been a wonderful addition to our smiling faces in reception and looks forward to taking care of you and your pets. Come by and say hello!
